The Stellar M22 - IPL™ stands as a versatile application capable of treating various skin conditions. Its broad range of applications includes addressing concerns such as sun damage, pigmentation issues, rosacea, acne, vascular lesions, facial rejuvenation, and permanent hair reduction.
IPL stands for “intense pulsed light.” During an IPL photofacial, a light-emitting device is precisely calibrated to target specific skin concerns or deliver comprehensive full-face rejuvenation. When the pulses of light emitted by this device are absorbed by the melanin (pigment) and red blood cells in the skin, heat is generated. This heat emulates a superficial injury, but unlike a burn, it won’t cause any lasting damage. The IPL device is designed to activate the skin’s natural healing processes without harming delicate dermal tissue.
IPL treatments use polychromatic (broad spectrum) light to work their magic. This type of light is made up of many different wavelengths, unlike the light emitted by conventional medical lasers, which is usually limited to a narrow band of wavelengths. By adjusting the wavelengths of light emitted during IPL therapy, our specialists can calibrate the IPL photofacial to react to specific skin conditions. The adjustable nature of this procedure makes IPL treatment extremely versatile and easy to customize. This procedure can be used to treat a single issue or address multiple problems simultaneously. The Stellar M22™ Photorejuvenation treatment works with your skin to remove your imperfections and stimulate collagen and elastic fiber production over a sequence of treatments. Some skin concerns such as shallow pigmentation and age/sun spots can be cleared with as few as 1-2 treatments. Typically 2-6 sessions with 2-4 weeks in between are needed to achieve optimal results for most skin concers.
Immediately following treatment, you may experience some redness, depending on your customized treatment settings.
The redness will usually disappear within a few hours. In most cases, makeup may be immediately applied, and daily activities can be resumed the very same day. Typically your physician should advise to stay out of direct sun for a few weeks following the treatment and to apply sun screen.
For the first 24 hours post-IPL treatment, refrain from exposing your skin to hot showers, baths, or hot tubs. Heat can exacerbate inflammation and irritation, prolonging the healing process. Similarly, avoid engaging in physical exercise for 24 to 48 hours to prevent sweating, which can irritate the treated skin. Be mindful to avoid overheating your face, even during activities such as cooking, to promote optimal healing.
As your skin attempts to repair itself, it will shed its dull, damaged outer layer and form supple, vibrant new skin. During this process, skin-firming proteins (like collagen and elastin) are produced in abundance, mitigating some of the effects of age-related collagen loss. The light emitted during IPL therapy also breaks down the dark pigment inside age spots and freckles, creating a more even skin coloration.
Light pulses penetrate the tissue and create heat, targeting the skin imperfection in a controlled manner. The body’s natural process then removes the treated tissue, while collagen and elastic fiber stimulation occurs, resulting in a visible improvement in skin tone and overall appearance.
DNA Beauty Studio’s IPL: Intense Pulsed Light is a service that offers all of these benefits:
The IPL photofacial combats the effects of UV damage by penetrating and drawing out discolored cells deep in the dermis, dissolving dark age spots and excessive freckling. After this deep exfoliation, the skin generates new collagen, strengthening and rejuvenating the skin.
Note: After IPL, brown spots on your skin will temporarily darken and crust over. Scratching at healing skin can disrupt the recovery time and cause scarring.
Intense pulsed light can tackle the causes of acne and its lasting side effects, like scarring. This procedure also kills harmful bacteria, reduces redness and inflammation, and encourages the skin to shed and renew its outer layer, gradually eliminating scar tissue.
Note: Before an IPL photofacial, you may need to stop using topical and systemic acne medications for up to six months.
Intense pulsed light is absorbed efficiently by red blood cells, making the IPL photofacial one of the best treatments available for visible blood vessel abnormalities. Patients use the IPL photofacial to dissolve broken capillaries and spider veins for a more even, youthful complexion. This procedure is also ideal for treating conditions that cause diffuse redness, like rosacea.
A 10-year study conducted by Stanford University in California demonstrated that having two to three photofacials per year for a decade can positively alter the genes of dermal cells, preventing many of the superficial signs of aging.
Note: To make the most of the IPL photofacial’s age-fighting properties, avoid sun exposure, especially in the weeks before and after IPL treatment. All skin resurfacing procedures make the skin temporarily more sensitive to UV radiation, so applying SPF 50 sunscreen is a must.
Though the IPL photofacial is most frequently used for facial rejuvenation, it can also renew the neck, upper chest, shoulders, hands, arms, and legs. Treating multiple areas with intense pulsed light may give you a more uniformly youthful look.
The gentle lifting and revitalizing action of the IPL photofacial can be complemented with other non-surgical procedures, especially injectables like BOTOX® and dermal fillers.
The IPL photofacial is powerful enough to access the deeper layers of the dermis but gentle enough not to cause excessive swelling, redness, or lasting irritation. Most people can apply makeup immediately after their appointment and return to work within 24 to 48 hours.
IPL treatments typically take under half an hour to complete, making it easy to schedule your procedure around other commitments.
The cost of the IPL photofacial varies depending on your location and care provider’s experience, but it is one of the most affordable methods of skin rejuvenation.
People with lighter skin and dark hair can use intense pulsed light to painlessly eliminate unwanted face and body hair. Like laser hair removal, IPL can remove hair from large areas very quickly.
